What is Hip Hop Theatre?
Jonzi D Productions’ approach to Hip Hop Theatre explores the core artistic elements
of Hip Hop Culture (emceeing, dance styles and DJ-ing) to create dramatic performance.
How can I get involved in Jonzi D Productions' work?
One of the best ways of getting involved in Hip Hop Theatre is by going to watch
as much as you can. All our tours and other events are listed on the
productions page of our website.
If you are a student or teacher you may want to arrange a
workshop at your school or college. Ple at your school or college. Please read below for more information
on this.
We have a professional development strand to our work where we encourage experienced,
practicing Hip Hop artists across the disciplines to develop theatrical approaches
to their work. If you feel this is something you would benefit from, get involved
in our regular Hip Hop Theatre Labs.
How do I find out more about teaching for Jonzi D Productions?
Hip Hop artists working for Jonzi D Productions’ Education programme are world class
performers and educators. They include cast members from past shows and Hip Hop
education specialists selected by Jonzi D and Education Manager Joanna Gamper. The
company are looking for excellent teachers who have a clear understanding of Hip
Hop culture and specialist knowledge of their particular area (Graffiti art, Rapping,
Lockin etc)
If you are interested in teaching for Jonzi D Productions, please
email us your CV. Following the submission of a CV, you will be asked to
invite us to observe you teaching a workshop. Assuming that you meet the required
criteria, you will then be asked to attend a training day.
What are the Hip Hop Theatre Labs?
JDP’s Hip Hop Theatre Labs are designed
for experienced Hip Hop artists who are interested in theatrical approaches to their
craft. The Hip Hop Theatre Labs run over seven evening workshops culminating in
The Surgery where participants can present their
work to an audience. There are usually around three Labs a year. These workshops
aren’t designed for people who wish to learn how to emcee or how to break for example,
but rather where you can bring your skills to a workshop and devise new and interesting
Hip Hop Theatre.
Does Jonzi D Productions offer internships?
Unfortunately Jonzi D Productions does not offer internships being such a small
organisations.
Can Jonzi D Productions help me with my research?
Jonzi D Productions often receives enquiries into whether we can help people with
their academic or personal research. While we would love to be able to dedicate
time to every enquiry, this is not always possible. However you may find some useful
information by reading the Jonzi D section of this website
where you can find some information on Jonzi’s background and previous work. You
can also find him on myspace.

Jonzi D Productions tours work every year. Whether you would like to book us to

What types of workshops do Jonzi D Productions run and who are they
for?
Jonzi D Productions runs workshops in many of the different elements of Hip Hop.
These workshops include various dance styles such as lockin’ and poppin’ as well
as emceeing and graffiti art. We are involved in many projects with children and
young people and we are very open to working in many different environments and
with people of all ages and backgrounds so either email

How can Jonzi D Productions help me to deliver the BTEC
National Award in Performing Arts (Dance): Urban Dance Module?
The BTEC National Award in Performing Arts (Dance) gives students an understanding
of the performing arts with a specific focus on the essential skills, techniques
and disciplines needed for a career in the dancing profession.
The course is designed to be adaptable to the student’s interests, abilities and
aspirations and consists of two compulsory core units plus your choice from a range
of specialist units – one of which is the Urban Dance Module. There are a number of ways JonzThere are a number of ways Jonzi D Productions can help you to deliver this module:
As stipulated in the Edexcel BTEC Nationals example programme of learning for Unit
38: Dance Performance Session Teaching topic: Delivery methods, you are required
to deliver a:
Hip Hop Workshop
Tutor-led session covering the basics of the hip hop style. This could be a one
off workshop delivered by a guest lecturer from the industry. Production Arts –

Jonzi D Productions can provide dance company members to deliver one-off workshops
or longer projects in a range of different Hip Hop dance styles:
- Breakin' (b-boyin' / b-girlin’)
- Street Dance
- Poppin'
- Lockin'
- Krump
All of our dancers are able to deliver information on the historical context of
the dance styles as well as teaching technique and choreography.
